Bethan Hammond's experience working in EdUKaid's offices, Salisbury

Why EdUKaid?

I have always been interested in the work that EdUKaid does and I love to see all the pictures and videos of the children that EdUKaid helps. Over the past few years I have become more and more interested in the work of the charity and in April 2018 I decided to run the London Marathon to raise money to help to provide more facilities and teachers to the communities that EdUKaid works in. This fundraising enabled me to gain a real insight into the way that the charity works and an understanding where the funds raised go to. It also deepened my interest and sparked a passion to help the charity further.

My Experience working for EdUKaid

I am currently working as a teacher in a secondary school which enables me to have a fairly decent amount of time off. So in order to put my time off to good use I decided to volunteer in the EdUKaid offices and really help out in any way that I could.

Over the summer I have been volunteering one day a week in the office as well as completing some work from home. I have been focusing on the way that EdUKaid maximises their use of social media and marketing strategies to build engagement with the charity and reach as many people as possible. This has been brilliant in terms of enabling me to develop skills in marketing and expand my knowledge but to also work alongside Teresa to build steps to push the charity forward.

Why Volunteer?

Volunteering has been a great experience and it is something that I will continue to do, even when the summer holidays are over. EdUKaid is a small but fantastic charity that really do make an impact on the lives of so many people living in the Mtwara region of Tanzania. Volunteering has enabled me to gain skills and experience in an area that I have always been interested in and it has helped the charity to focus on areas that without volunteers they simply do not have time to do.

I have loved this experience, working with EdUKaid is brilliant and extremely worthwhile, I will definitely be back for more!
