This week, EdUKaid’s U.K. trustees and team came together in Salisbury for our annual Strategy Day - an important event in our governance calendar.

Exploring 'Power Dynamics'

The day began with a thought provoking exercise exploring the power dynamics in international development and, in particular, who holds the most power in relation to EdUKaid's strategic direction.  Individuals were given 'roles, traits and attributes' and asked to place themselves in order from the least to the most powerful in the context of EdUKaid’s strategic direction and decision-making power. The exercise created lively discussions and provided an opportunity to consider how we can change these power dynamics in the future to ensure that the voices of beneficiaries and community members in particular have greater weight in our strategic planning.

Strategic Planning

Chair of Trustees Tim Varney shared information gathered from the Tanzanian trustees and staff team from his recent trip to Mikindani, ensuring that their views, concerns and aspirations were integral to the strategic discussions that followed.
As well as reviewing objectives, exploring organisational ambitions and putting plans in place to increase our impact, trustees reviewed their own skills and capacity - agreeing areas for improvement including the need to recruit additional trustees to strengthen the organisation's foundations.  Look out for adverts coming soon.
