After a career in the energy industry as an environmental researcher, human resource manager and business planner, Alan set off to explore Africa. He discovered international development in The Gambia, and knew that he wanted to make a contribution.

Volunteering experience

Alan has since volunteered extensively with VSO, in Indonesia, in the UK and in Tanzania, where he was based for 3 months in Mtwara, helping a local NGO to develop their future plans. Alan describes the dedication and commitment of local volunteers as ‘totally inspirational’. The unforgettable experience of living and working in the local community gave him an understanding of the background to EdUKaid’s operations.

Home life

Alan lives in Salisbury, where for many years he also volunteered as an adviser in Citizens Advice. He joined EdUKaid in April 2021. He will apply his research skills, financial know-how and a lot of persistence to finding new and renewed sources of funding to support our life-enhancing work in Mtwara.
