The Challenge

In southern Tanzania, women and girls face huge barriers to accessing education due to poor, undignified sanitation facilities, a lack of understanding of their rights and harmful cultural beliefs.  As a result, less than 1 in 100 girls gets to complete her education - most dropping out when they reach puberty.

Girls who drop of school are at significantly more risk of exploitation and abuse with teenage girls often pregnant or married when still children themselves.

How you can help

With your help, we will ensure that every girl has the support they need to remain in school.

This includes:

  • Menstrual health education for girls in primary school
  • Building washrooms and toilets
  • Teaching boys how to respect women and girls
  • Raising awareness in the community about the benefits of keeping girls in education
  • Improving safeguarding systems and processes so that women and girls can seek help when needed
