FACE: Feed A Child’s Education Appeal
For many children in Tanzania, lack of food at school is a daily occurrence. With only an evening meal to sustain them, hunger in the classroom is a major barrier to learning. Yet it costs just 15p a day to give a child a nutritious, healthy meal.
EdUKaid is aiming to raise £10,000 to launch a school feeding programme. Our ‘Feed a Child’s Education’, or FACE Appeal, hopes to inspire schools, businesses, church and local community groups to get involved. We’ve produced smiling FACE badges so people can show their support for the campaign and help raise awareness of our work and the needs of children in Tanzania.
Parents of local Tanzanian school, Imekuwa Primary, have already shown their commitment to the project: Without any promise of funding from the charity, they undertook to clear and prepare land for a school farm. Now all that’s needed are the initial funds to get them started.
The project sees parents running a school farm. Food for the feeding project can then be purchased with income made from the sale of produce. In time, once the project is established, not only will children be able to concentrate better at school, the project will become self-sufficient and sustainable.
