The current standard of education in Tanzania is very low and this results from a number of factors including a huge lack of resources and facilities. Some of the schools are woefully equipped; insufficient classrooms; pupils sat on the floor or crammed into desks; one textbook for the entire class; poor quality blackboards and no teaching aids or displays. By sponsoring a child you will be assisting EdUKaid in changing this situation and improving the standard of education as a result.

Where does my money go?

In the past EdUKaid’s sponsorship scheme was established to enable Primary and Secondary aged pupils to go to school when they were unable to do so because of prohibitive fees and other costs. We have reassessed the situation and at present there is not a problem with Primary pupils going to school but with Secondary aged pupils there is still a large proportion who do not go to school because the available places are oversubscribed. Therefore, we have changed the focus of our sponsorship from the pupil, to the school as a whole. Your money will go to provide resources and facilities for the school that your sponsored pupil attends, benefiting them and their peers.

What do I get for my sponsorship?

You will have the satisfaction that you are assisting a child and his or her school. EdUKaid will also provide you with information about your student, their family, home and their school. We will do our best to keep you updated on your pupil’s progress, the items we buy, and of the improvements we make to the school with the money from your sponsorship. We encourage the exchange of letters between you and the student for the mutual benefit of both parties but mainly to help improve the student’s standard of English.

What does it cost?

We have two levels of sponsorship; Primary and Secondary. Primary schooling is relatively cheaper than Secondary schooling so it costs £5 per month for Primary and£15 per month for Secondary.

What do I need to do?

Just open the sponsorship starter kit, return the completed form to EdUKaid and we will do the rest. (We are currently setting up the facility to complete an online form, so if you would prefer this method, you shouldn’t have to wait too long!) You can set up a standing order with your bank for a monthly or annual payment, or if you wish to pay via cheque you can, so long as it is annually.
