Our team in Tanzania, led by Ally and Jaylani Muksini, have been working hard. Our pre-primary school programme to establish classes at Primary schools is going strong:

In addition to the class at Imekuwe School established last year, a new 2-classroom building at Mgao School has been reconstructed and decorated with a plan to open its doors in January 2011. This will provide pre-primary schooling for up to 80 children. This could also potentially increase if there is demand for a second stream. Work for a further pre-primary class at Namgogli School is set to begin in the new year, and we’re currently reviewing sites for further new classes.

Our project to provide basic school resources and improve school facilities is also being reviewed. With a full audit of the local school needs being carried out, we aim to identify the schools’ most urgent requirements and how EdUKaid can best help to deliver these.

Ally and Jaylani have been working well together. Since stepping into their new roles a few months ago, they have grown in confidence and experience with each new initiative. Their ongoing feedback and proactive approach means our work is able to progress smoothly and with an insight into the local community that is both indispensable and exciting. Tim Varney, Chair of Trustees, and John Cox, volunteer advisor, are currently out in Mikindani evaluating the projects’ progress and supporting the team with their work.

Our child sponsorship programme has continued to support 75 children, providing uniforms, shoes, socks and exercise books, and bicycles to travel further once they reach secondary school. Any school fees and security fees are also covered. Please let us know if you’re interested in sponsoring a child, or know of anyone else who would like to find out more. Any new sponsors we secure now, means another child can start school in the new school year in January. Thank you to all our child sponsors for your ongoing and generous support.
