Whats going on at EdUKaid...?March 20 2012
Just to recap, in 2011 the pre-primary project went from strength to strength with the opening of three new classes each providing much needed pre-school development, stimulation and support to approximately 50 children. Our primary schools project of providing basic school resources and making improvements to facilities has been extensive, and included three schools making a difference to the lives of 100s of children.
As a result of this success to date, 2012 has kick started very positively. Following Tim Varney’s (Chair of Trustees) visit to Mikindani in early January it was realised that much still remains to be done. In the region where we operate the need is pressing, there are many villages, communities and schools struggling to give their children an education and the next few years are likely to present challenges.
We are however tackling this head on, and currently busy preparing ourselves for what lies ahead, putting in place a robust five year plan. The foundation of our work will remain the same, but our plans are becoming more ambitious; we hope to renovate 4 schools in 2012 and this will mean employing 4 more pre-primary teachers and 4 assistants.
Always striving to do more, we are also looking to expand our operation a little and potentially exploit new greener building materials, tackle teachers’ housing, as well as extend our sponsorship programme to include providing vocational opportunities for young adults.
