Imekuwa - A Case StudyJuly 11 2016
Way back in 2009 we renovated one of our first schools, Imekuwa Primary. When we first visited the school this is what we found:
Changes to this rural village school included employing a pre-primary teacher and assistant. Although pre-primary children are entitled to a free education in Tanzania, often the school budget does not stretch. 4-6 year olds head to school yet are met by no teacher or even a classroom. They now have teacher Atma, teaching assistant Lucy, a selection of resources and of course a classroom!
Another big part of the renovation is the main primary school outside and inside. This is what the main school looks like now:
Although renovations were completed in 2009 we frequently visit our partner schools to see how they are getting on. Part of EdUKaids work includes meetings with the pre-primary team, headteachers meetings, and standard 1 & 2 workshops. All of these ensure that we are aware of current problems the school faces and work out ways to help. One problem the schools face is hygiene. Towards the end of last we installed four tippytaps for the children and teachers to use. Project Manager Ally Simba presented a hygiene workshop before the students tested them out. We will continue to work with this school so keep an eye on social media for the latest details!
