Climbing the Three Peaks... Twice!July 21 2017
Thank you to James Howcroft for undertaking the 3 Peaks Challenge not once but twice in less than 6 weeks to raise money for EdUKaid. James first attempted the challenge back in June but due to high winds and really terrible weather James and his fellow climbers were unable to reach the top of Mount Snowdon or complete the challenge in their target 24 hours. Undeterred James and pals set off again on the 15th July determined to climb all 3 peaks in a day. On this second attempt the team encountered equally bad weather but managed to battle through it and climb all 3 peaks in 22 hours and 56 minutes. James told us “visibility was poor towards the top of each, especially Scafell, which was pitch black all the way to the summit and we thought we were lost. However, like angels from above at about 3am, we suddenly saw about 7-8 bobbing headlights coming back down the mountain. Such an amazing feeling and relief seeing and speaking to people, as we knew we weren’t far off track or from the top.” Ever the competitor, James now wants to beat his time but says it definitely won’t be this year!!
Thanks to James and the people that sponsored him we have been able to provide chalk, paper and other essential resources to 15 primary schools in the remote Mtwara region of southern Tanzania. This means that thousands of children now have the materials they need to learn and an opportunity to make the most of their education.
