Catch up with Extra TuitionJanuary 16 2013
Some of you may be aware that back in August 2012 EdUKaid introduced some extra tuition for their Child Sponsors. This provision was decided upon due to feedback we were receiving from our Tanzanian Project Coordinators – feedback that suggested that there were children that perhaps weren’t attending school because they were struggling due to various reasons surrounding high pupil numbers in comparison to teachers; the distance it takes to travel to school; and the need and unavoidable distraction of working on the farm!
The EdUKaid UK and Tanzania teams needed to find a way to support these students. It was decided to run some Saturday classes offering extra tuition for any aged child that is on EdUKaid’s sponsorship scheme. Left in the hands of our very trusted and hardworking Tanzania team, when we returned in November for our regular monitoring and evaluating trip these classes were thriving!!!
Even better than this… the teacher that was employed to run the class for older students (did I mention there are two separate teachers for different age groups), is a previous Child Sponsor of EdUKaid’s, who graduated in May 2012.
Attendance is great; the gender split is even better and the projects turning out to be a massive success – we will keep you updated on return from our monitoring trip in February!
