A Special Gift January 20 2016
A gift that changed Fatuma's life...
This is Fatuma, who lost her foot in an accident. Two years ago she visited the EdUKaid offices for the first time. She attended Singino Primary and the walk caused her a lot of pain. She asked if there was anything we could do.
The EdUKaid team returned to the UK and after a bit of thinking time, they had a couple of ideas on what they could do to help Fatuma. After purchasing some kevlar reinforced kneepads our Chair of Trustees got his sewing kit out and adapted the knee pads to fit Fatuma's stump. We also purchased some waterproof socks to give her that extra protection and to keep her foot dry during the rainy season.
Two years later (November '15) Fatuma arrived back at at our offices to let us know she had passed her standard 7 exam! She explained how this was largely due to her being able to walk to school comfortably every day. At the same time she showed us the kneepads and socks, of which were very well used to say the least.
On return to the UK we contacted Spinlock and Salt and Bracken (who are an agent for SealSkinz) to let them know how we had used there products and what this meant for Fatuma. Both companies very generously provided us with some stock to take to Tanzania for Fatuma. This included three pairs of knee pads and multiple pairs of waterproof socks. As an extra they have also provided Fatuma with a rucksack to help continue her studies. She will be so excited to receive these early next year.
Thank you very much to James at Spinlock, and James at Salt and Bracken for making this happen, asante sana as we say in Swahili!
