2013 Events and Challenges - check out what's happened and what's coming up!August 19 2013
One of the undoubted strengths behind EdUKaid is the fantastic supporters we are surrounded by and the personal, yet extensive efforts individuals have gone to, to fundraise for our cause.
This year has been no different to any other… we’ve had supporters climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro; some standing in torrential rain at flower shows; others trekking Hadirans Wall - the entire eighty miles in wind, rain, hail and sunshine (although there was little of the latter), and many more...
It truly has been one very busy year – especially with all the extra excitement as EdUKaid are celebrating ten years of working in Mikindani this year!
Check out the events and challenges that have taken place this year, and see how you can get involved in what we have lined up for the rest of 2013…
Whats happened so far...
In February Becky Cole and Ruth Galliers took on Kilimanjaro, and they did it! After months of training, and the rather late reaslisation of how high Kili actually is, they didn't only climb Africa's largest peak but raised £10,000 doing so - a cracking start to the year! Read Becky's trip diary Here
A group of gallant walkers took on over eighty miles of terrain in trekking Hadrian's Wall by day and setting up camp along the way by night, all for EdUKaid. They went they walked and they conquered!
Helen Middleton, a long term supporter of EdUKaid's put on a Bridge Lunch at the beginning of April to raise funds for projects. Over 60 people attended the Bridge Lunch for a fun filled afternoon and a delicious lunch. Over £1500.00 was raised!
In May a letter arrived for EdUKaid - it was from Zouch Primary School. Some of the children at Zouch Primary School decided that funds they had raised from a book sale, they wanted to donate to EdUKaid, specifically the Pre-primary projects. What a lovely surprise this - we are very grateful for the continued support from Zouch.
Although May is classed as Spring time, Caroline Murray found herself stood in torrential rain over a weekend Plant Sale during May. Caroline topped all previous years fundrasing this year - raising over £600 for EdUKaid. Thats not it, Cambridge University Presss decided to double it! Thank you Caroline, we really do appreciate it.
June was a pretty big month for us. On June the 7th we held our Ten Year Birthday Celebration at Salisbury Guildhall, inviting old and new friends and supporters of EdUKaid's. It was a fantastic evening reminding ourselves of, and reminising about old memories, whilst looking to the future ahead.
The Budleigh Salterton Lions Club held two fundraising events on the 12th and 13th July including a cash bingo and a jumble sale. Gemma Salt, EdUKaid's Development Manager recruited friends and family to help out over the two days and over £800 was raised for EdUKaid - a HUGE thank you to Budleigh Lions and all who helped.
And what's coming up...
In September we have been invited to visit Downton Primary School to share with the children EdUKaid's work in Tanzania - we're looking forward to it at Camp EdUKaid!
If you fancy a last minute challenge and have some time off, why not make the decision - climb Kilimanjaro next month! Click Here to find out more and how you can get involved in a life changing adventure.
It's the Great South Run in October and EdUKaid have still got two spaces to GET INVOLVED!
Have you ever joked about trekking the Sahara desert... visualised yourself taking on a challenge of a lifetime? In November, you can walk the Morrocan desert in the heart of the Sahara. The trek follows an old trade route still used by nomadic Berber tribesmen and their camel caravans, and takes us over vast sand dunes, along dried-up riverbeds, across rocky plateaux and through idyllic oases. This year, a very special Cuckoo has called on Mikindani... The first edition book, The Cuckoo's Calling by "Robert Galbraith" was given to EdUKaid by Maggie Darling, a friend of JK Rowling's and a supporter of our work. This is a very unique copy - being the first, and so far the only first edition to be signed with both names, JK Rowling and Robert Galbraith. This December, the book will be going to auction to raise funds that will by heading straight to our projects in Tanzania. For more details on the auction, contact us at admin@Edukaid.com
We've been lucky enough to have secured a chalet at Salisbury Christmas Market this year. On Thursday 19th December you can find us selling authentic trinkets straight from Tanzania, fresh coffee beans and many more fabulous gift ideas. Remember, not only will you be filling a stocking when buying from our chalet, you will be supporting our projects, and ultimately giving the gift of education to many children in rural poor Tanzania.
You can contact us using these details.
